A Memorial Portrait in Handcraft: A Tangible Memory That Tells a Story
The ability to remember and preserve the precious moments and people in our lives is an essential part of being human. Especially when it comes to those who have passed away, the need to hold onto something tangible—something that immortalizes their image and tells their story—becomes more meaningful than ever. A handcrafted portrait offers a unique and moving way to commemorate the connection to loved ones who are no longer with us, through a creation that expresses not only their likeness, but also everything they meant to us.
Why a Personal Portrait?
A personal portrait is more than just a picture—it’s a way to infuse love, memory, and energy into a creation that will last forever. Through book sculpting using the Shadow technique, I create portraits that allow family and friends to feel presence, closeness, and even comfort.
When Creation Becomes a Mission
One of the most moving portraits I created was in memory of a Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedic from Ofakim who was murdered on October 7th while saving lives. His wife reached out to me through his TikTok account and wrote: “I’m thinking of making a portrait for my husband who was murdered on October 7th.” It was a powerful moment I’ll never forget. Working on this book was accompanied by a storm of emotions—the joy of creation mixed with deep grief over the loss.

After receiving the portrait, she wrote to me:
“The book sits on the nightstand next to my bed, and in the hardest moments—which are the nights—I look at it and just smile at him.”
A Gift That Tells a Story
Sometimes, a personal portrait is not just a memory, but also a warm embrace that connects generations. Like in the case of a family who lost their most precious person two years ago—their grandmother. As their mother’s birthday approached, a woman who doesn’t let a day pass without looking at her mother’s photo and speaking to her with longing, the children decided to transform their grandmother’s picture into a work of art. A creation that would always be there on the shelf, and every time she looks at it—she wouldn’t just see her mother, but also feel the warm embrace of her children.

A Memorial Portrait Filled with Meaning
Choosing a personal portrait in a sculptured book is choosing a living memory. It’s a way to keep the image of our loved ones close, preserve their presence, and give a place of honor to their life story. Every creation I make is done with respect, love, and a deep understanding of the importance of commemoration. If you’re also looking for a way to memorialize a loved one or give a truly moving gift, I’m here to help. Contact me and together we can transform a memory into a creation that will last forever.
